Some time ago, one friend who is not very cool and by the name of Ian yeo asked me what i did for part time. I roughly told him some of my job scope and he sounded super surprised. LOL
Ian: woah, that sounds damn professional.
me: nah, i give u a few days, u can understand as well as i do and do a better job than me.
Ian: but wait.. What if the engineer is not so good? Isn't it unsafe to stay in the building he designed?
me: hmmm well. Apparently this is not much of a problem..
Ian: why?
me: Cos the engineers in Singapore are very "kia si" (a term used to describe timid). They would rather fall on the safe side if they are unsure.
me: So u see them designing much BIGGER columns and thicker concrete floor slabs and spending a lot of clients' money. LOL
Ian: wtf @_@
Hmmm for me to sum up the engineering situation in Singapore. Its not easy being an engineer in Singapore. If u are good, people might show u some respect and spread around "hey, he's an engineer.."
However, if u are not so good and people would immediately be unappreciative of u regardless of how good u were in the past. They would simply call u "hey here comes an en-ji-neer"
=D
