Yesterday i was at the games. One of them brought his son who is 16 of age.
I thought: his son must be a not-too-bad player and that is why he dares to bring him along. Lol
F: hi, i brought my son..
Me: cool. How old is he?
F: 16
Me: where is he studying? (juz from where people come from, i can make a rough estimate of his training background)
F: st gabriel.
Me: oh ic.. (this sch is not known for badminton, it doesnt have a good structured system in place. I must look at his strokes)
Me: come. Play one good game with me.
During the game, i saw his strokes. Very technical and strong. Just that he lacks of tactical exposure.
Me: ur son trained outside right?
Father and son were stunned at my question.
F: ya..
Me: who is his coach? ( the circle is not too big. i guess i know him)
Son: simon.
Me: simon is good. My brother's under him before.
When people exhibit strong skills, the typical chinese would always honour their coaches and where they come from.
I want to play well at such level which people would come and ask me where i train, and who i learn it from.
I just want to honour him and i would proudly say it out.
Zheng qing jin. Former china national team coach. Former singapore national team head coach. Former technical director of the singapore badminton association.
God bless.
